Position Summary
We are seeking dependable, community-minded individuals to join our new Uptown Beautification Team. Crew Members perform early-morning litter abatement and public way beautification across Uptown’s designated zones. This is an active, outdoor, year-round role where team members walk a 5-mile district route to remove litter, clean
sidewalks, assist with planting beds, and report public-way issues. All equipment is provided, and training is included.
Primary Responsibilities
Daily Beautification Work
- Walk an assigned 5-mile zone route and remove litter, debris, and trash from sidewalks and other public-way areas.
- Sweep sidewalks and clear debris as needed.
- Remove animal waste from pedestrian walkways.
- Monthly removal and disposal of signage, string, stickers, tape, etc. from light posts and trees.
- Assist with streetscape planter installations and landscape clean-up days as needed (additional hours available).
- Participate in winter tasks, including clearing snow from bus stops upon SSA request. Extended snow-cleanup support may be requested.
Required:
- Ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in all seasons
- Reliable attendance and punctuality for early-morning shifts
- Ability to lift up to ~50 lbs (trash bags, tools)
- Comfortable using simple tools and following safety procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Background and/or reference checks
- Experience in landscaping, janitorial, groundskeeping, public-works, or related roles
- Familiarity with Uptown neighborhoods
- Basic comfort using smartphone apps (for 311 reporting)
